COMPETITIONS

Get ready to show off your skills and be part of one of the Central Highlands’ most loved traditions — the Emerald Agricultural Show competitions! From the paddock to the pavilion, we’re calling on locals of all ages and experience levels to enter their best work across our wide range of sections, including agriculture, livestock, cookery, photography, arts, handicrafts, horticulture and more.

Entries for all competitions will open early in 2026 via the Showday Online platform. Please take note of our updated hand-in dates and check the Competition Guidelines carefully before submitting your entries.

Every exhibit helps tell the story of our region’s creativity, skill and pride — from the sparkle of the Pavilion to the excitement of the Centre Ring. Take time during the Show to explore the displays, admire the incredible local talent and cheer on competitors in the horse and stud cattle arenas.

All entries except for Horses, Woodchop and Scarecrow Trail are made through Showday Online. Please see those specific sections below for details.

Woodchop

The Emerald Show Woodchop Competition showcases the incredible skill, strength, and precision of competitive woodchoppers. Watch as competitors slice through timber in a range of events, a thrilling display that celebrates the tradition, teamwork, and craftsmanship of this time-honoured sport.

Scarecrow Trail

Celebrate show season across the Central Highlands with the Scarecrow Trail! Open to businesses, families and community groups, this fun and creative competition brings a touch of country charm to every corner of the region. Build your own scarecrow, display it proudly, and join in the spirit of the Emerald Show as our community comes alive with colour, creativity and country pride.
