The Emerald Show Society was proud to host the very first Emerald Showgies Volunteer Awards, a long-anticipated celebration of the people who make our Show possible.
For many years, recognising our volunteers in a formal way has been something we have wanted to do. Our volunteers give up enormous amounts of time, energy, and resources to support the Show and our community. No one does it for praise or acknowledgement — but that doesn’t mean recognition shouldn’t be given whenever we can.
While only a small number of awards were presented, every single contribution — big or small — is deeply appreciated. Our Show simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication of our volunteers.
We also acknowledge that Sean Dillon, State Member for Gregory, was unable to attend. Sean had planned to join us but was unable to leave his property due to rain over the weekend. We thank him for his continued support.
Years of Service Medals
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of our Years of Service Medals, recognising the dedication and commitment of active members who have contributed to the Society over many years.
Some medals were backdated this year to acknowledge milestones already achieved. These awards are based on available records, and we welcome any updates to ensure our history remains accurate.
Presenting these medals were Vice President Kylee Matthews and Central Highlands Showgirl Tara Frost.

Milestone Service Recognition
40 Year Medal — Pat Schwarz
Pat joined the Ladies Auxiliary sometime in the 1980s during the presidency of Ralph Goldsworthy. She spent many years stewarding the Plants and Flowers Shed and now serves as one half of our Show Patron team — a welcoming face and passionate advocate for the Show.
50 Year Medal — Tup Schwarz
This incredible milestone belongs to a truly special gentleman and our other Show Patron. Tup has supported the Show across five decades and eight presidents, beginning in the era of Keith McCamley. With an estimated 51–56 years of service, his dedication is simply extraordinary.
Fun Volunteer Recognition Awards
To celebrate the personalities and everyday heroes who keep things running smoothly, we presented several light-hearted awards:
Keep Calm and Carry On – Lisa Shaxon - Always there, always helping, never fazed.
Social Butterfly – Lynn O’Neill - A friendly face to everyone — visitors, volunteers, competitors, and traders alike.
Yvonne’s Speed Dial – Tim McBain - The most frequently dialled number during Show time!
Annual Volunteer Awards
These awards will now be presented each year and proudly displayed in our office.
Next-Gen Volunteer of the Year — Tara Frost
Recognising a young volunteer making a significant impact. Tara’s dedication is unmatched — equally at home singing the national anthem, driving a tractor, or emptying bins. Her leadership in building the Junior Show Ambassador program in 2025 resulted in record participation and inspired the next generation of volunteers.
Rookie of the Year — Cassie Lindgren
In just her first year, Cassie has embraced a major role with enthusiasm and calm professionalism. From managing trade site relationships to rolling up her sleeves wherever needed, she has become an invaluable team member — and has already recruited new volunteers for the future.
Dream Team of the Year — Handicrafts Section
Tricia, Don, Nikki, Aimee and Hannah were recognised for their exceptional teamwork. Managing a large volume of entries with care and kindness, they also led the way in adopting the Showday Online system and regularly support other sections. Their work showcases the creativity and talent of our community.
Volunteer of the Show — Tony Hawke
With the Horse Section continuing to grow, Tony’s leadership and dedication ensure everything runs smoothly. From coordinating helpers to managing main ring activities, his contribution is vital to the success of Show week.
Volunteer of the Year 2025 — James Laws
Our highest honour recognises someone who embodies the spirit of the Society year-round. James works tirelessly on maintenance, projects and improvements — often alongside Workcamp teams — bringing ideas to life and ensuring the Showgrounds continue to thrive. His dedication, skill and commitment are truly outstanding.
Thank You to Our Volunteers
The first Emerald Showgies Volunteer Awards were a heartfelt celebration of the people who make our Show what it is — a true community effort built on generosity, dedication and pride.
