Kanga-Creations
Kanga-Creations is a vibrant celebration of youth creativity, community pride, and public art at the heart of Emerald.
Big roos, young artists, endless creativity!
This exciting arts initiative invites students from local schools and community groups to design and decorate life-size kangaroo statues — transforming them into bold, colourful expressions of imagination and local identity. Inspired by the spirit of Ekka’s G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) Competition, Kanga-Creations encourages young people to share their stories, celebrate their community, and bring large-scale public art to life.
Participants begin by creating a design concept using a kangaroo template, along with a short artist statement explaining the inspiration behind their work. Selected finalists will then paint their designs onto full-size fiberglass kangaroos — collaborating with classmates and peers to transform their ideas into reality.
The finished “Big Roos” will be proudly displayed as a colourful sculpture trail at the Emerald Show, inviting visitors to explore, interact, and vote for their favourite designs.
Kanga-Creations is more than a competition — it’s a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the artistic voices of our young people.
In 2026, we will only have one Kangaroo but hope to grow the mob over the next few years.
